Capture the Perfect Mirror Shot

1Check the Tide Schedule

The mirror reflection only works at low tide. Check the Chichibugahama official site or tide tables for Mitoyo City. Plan your visit around the low tide window (2 hours before/after).

2Golden Hour + Low Tide = Magic

When sunset coincides with low tide, the sky turns orange and gold, reflected perfectly on the wet sand. This combination happens only a few times each month — check the schedule in advance.

3Calm Wind is Key

Wind creates ripples that break the mirror effect. The calmest conditions are usually in the early morning or evening. If it's windy, get as close to the water surface as possible for your shot.

4Low Camera Angle

For the best mirror photos, hold your camera or phone as low as possible — almost touching the water surface. A tripod or selfie stick helps. Shoot in landscape mode for maximum reflection area.

5Bring Props for Creative Shots

Umbrellas, colorful parasols, silhouette poses, and jump shots all create amazing photos on the mirror surface. Many visitors bring props for their Instagram shots.

6Protect Your Gear

The sand and saltwater can damage cameras and phones. Bring a waterproof case or plastic bag. Wear sandals or go barefoot — regular shoes will get wet. Bring a towel to dry off.

Best Times to Visit

Spring

March – May

Comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds. Cherry blossoms in the area add extra beauty. Good mirror conditions with moderate weather.

Summer

June – August

Peak season with the most dramatic sunsets. Long daylight hours give more chances for sunset + low tide overlap. Can be crowded on weekends — arrive early.

Autumn

September – November

Arguably the best season. Clear skies, vivid sunset colors, and comfortable temperatures. Less crowded than summer with equally stunning conditions.

Winter

December – February

Cold but dramatic. Clear winter skies can produce incredibly crisp reflections. Far fewer visitors mean you may have the beach to yourself.

While You're in the Area

Mt. Shiudeyama

A hilltop observatory with panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. Cherry blossoms in spring make it a double highlight.
